Who has the keys?

Terms of service

The terms for using the free check and the Owner and Freelancer plans.

Who you are dealing with

Who Has The Keys is run by Steve Jarvis, a sole trader, at Room 6, Old Chapel Court, 13 Church Street, Oswestry SY11 2SU. Other contact details are in the legal notice.

What the service does

The free check reads public records about a domain and shows what they say. Those records come from registries and DNS providers we do not control, so a result can be incomplete or out of date. The register records what you tell us about who controls your accounts. Who Has The Keys does not test anything for weaknesses, does not make a business secure, and does not give legal advice.

Using the check fairly

Use the check for domains you have a reason to look at. Do not use it to run large numbers of checks, to collect data about other businesses, or to get around its limits.

Your account

  • Keep your email account and authenticator app to yourself; they are how you sign in.
  • Never put a password, recovery code or two-step code into the register.
  • If you name other people in your register, make sure you are allowed to, and tell them.

Plans and payment

The Owner plan is £6 a month or £60 a year per business. The Freelancer plan is £29 a month for up to 25 client businesses. Plans are paid through Stripe and renew each month or each year. Who Has The Keys is not VAT registered, so no VAT is added. If a price changes, we email you at least 30 days before it applies to you. The new price starts at your next renewal after that, and you can cancel before then.

Ending your plan and refunds

You can cancel within 14 days of starting a paid plan and get your money back in full. After that you can cancel at any time; your plan runs to the end of the month or year you have paid for, and the rest of that period is not refunded.

When a plan ends, its register stays readable, but not editable, for 90 days, and the watch stops. We email you 30 days and 7 days before we delete it. After 90 days the register is deleted. Starting a plan again within the 90 days keeps it.

Break-glass

Break-glass sends the people you name the information and instructions you set, after the silence and delay you choose. Nobody is sent anything until they have agreed to be named. It is not a will or a power of attorney and gives nobody legal authority. Email can fail, so it should not be the only arrangement you make. You choose who to name and what to send them; we send what you set, to the addresses you give, and are not responsible for what they do with it.

Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit.

If you use Who Has The Keys for a business, we are not liable for loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill or data, or for any indirect loss. Our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to what you paid us in those 12 months.

If you use it as a consumer, we are responsible for loss you suffer that was a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or not using reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for business losses. Your rights under consumer law are not affected.

The check and the watch report what public records say, and records can be wrong or late. We are not liable for a renewal, expiry or change that a record did not show, or that an email about it did not reach you.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales deal with any dispute. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your own country’s courts.
