Every question so far

Do you need my passwords?

No. Who Has The Keys never asks for a password, a recovery code or a two-step code, and has nowhere to store one. The register records who controls each account and how they sign in, such as which email address they use and whether two-step login is on. It never records how to get in.

What does the free check look at?

Public records only. It reads the domain’s registration record, which shows the registrar, the renewal date and the status, and the domain’s public DNS records, which show the nameservers, the website host, the email host and services that have verified the domain. It signs in to nothing.

Why can’t the check show who owns my domain?

Most registries now hide the name and address of whoever registered a domain, to protect personal data. So the check can show where your domain is registered and when it renews, but not whose name is on it. That field, the registered keeper, is one only the business can fill in.

Is the check really free?

Yes. The check is free, with no sign-up and no email address needed. You pay only to keep a register: £6 a month or £60 a year for one business on the Owner plan, or £29 a month for up to 25 client businesses on the Freelancer plan.

What happens if my domain expires?

Everything that depends on the domain stops together: the website stops loading and email to addresses on the domain stops arriving. The registrar’s reminders go to whoever is on the record. With a register, Who Has The Keys also emails you 60, 30 and 7 days before the renewal date.

What is break-glass?

Break-glass sends people you name, such as a partner, your accountant or your solicitor, the map of your accounts and your instructions if you stop checking in. You choose how long the silence lasts, and you can cancel during the delay that follows. It never sends a password, and it isn’t a will.

Can I cancel, and do I get a refund?

Yes. If you cancel within 14 days of starting a paid plan, you get your money back in full. After that you can cancel at any time, and your plan runs to the end of the month or year you have paid for. No VAT is added to any price, because Who Has The Keys isn’t VAT registered.

Who is the Freelancer plan for?

Freelancers and small agencies who build and look after websites. For £29 a month you keep a logbook for each of up to 25 client businesses, with your own name and logo on the handover pack and the emails, and you can hand any logbook to its owner when the work ends.

Where is my register kept?

In a database in London. Signing in needs a link sent to your email address and a code from an authenticator app on your phone, for every account, with no way to switch the second step off. Card payments are taken and held by Stripe; we never see the card number.

Does it make my business secure?

No, and we will never say it does. Who Has The Keys doesn’t test your website for weaknesses. It is a record of who controls each account the business depends on, kept up to date and watched, so the right people can act when something changes or runs out.

The quickest answer is your own check.
