Squarespace: keep the keys with the business

A Squarespace site has exactly one owner. If the designer who built it is still the owner, the subscriptions and any Squarespace domain stay with them.

Every step below is from Squarespace’s own help pages, checked on 6th October 2026. Screens change: if a step doesn’t match what you see, the linked page is the one to trust. Nothing here needs you to share a password.

Add a second administrator

In your register this is field N.4 of the Squarespace account.

  1. Open the Permissions & Ownership panel and select Invite Contributor.
  2. Enter their name and email address and switch on the Administrator permission.
  3. Select Invite. They log in or create a Squarespace account to accept.

Basic plans allow one contributor; Core, Plus and Advanced allow more.

Make the business the owner

In your register this is field N.3 of the Squarespace account.

  1. Invite the business as a contributor first and wait for it to accept.
  2. In Permissions & Ownership, select your name under Owner, then Transfer Ownership.
  3. Log in again when asked, choose the new owner, then Continue and Confirm.

Squarespace domains, Google Workspace and Acuity subscriptions on the site move with it. The new owner should then update the billing details.
